We can encourage customers and prospects to email us their questions and comments, and then publish our replies on our website.
Everybody wants to get their message out, but the message we really need is the one that's coming in.
Let's talk about using our email inbox effectively.
Let's Ask For Advice
Everybody loves to give advice, and we can put this natural energy to work for our business.
In a way, nobody understands our business better than our prospects, because it's their perspective that will determine our fate.
Hey, it's true, so why not just tell our prospects that, and humbly ask for their help?
Everybody loves to be the teacher, so let's invite our readers to play this popular role.
Let's establish a formal action plan for soliciting input from our target market.
Email is a good vehicle for this exchange, because it's easier for people to be honest online, and frank input is what we need.
So, Step 1, we'll invite everybody to email us their questions, suggestions, advice, complaints, rants, personal stories, and feature requests etc.
An Efficient And Effective Reply
Phew, now we have a new pile of emails we have to answer. Grrr, whose big idea was this anyway?
Oops, it's time for a mindset shift!
These incoming emails aren't a boring burden, they're free food for our word of mouth marketing machine.
A little trick for making us feel good about this time investment is to share our answers on our website, where lots of people can watch us being responsive and helpful.
We have to type our answer somewhere, so let's type it where lots of people can see it. No extra work, and a lot better return on our time investment.
Of course we will still email a reply to the sender.
We can say, "That's a good question and I decided to add it to our website, thanks for the inspiration, here's the link."
Reality And Perception
Being genuinely helpful and responsive is key to any effective word of mouth campaign. Trying to fake it could easily lead to the worst possible outcome, a negative word of mouth campaign. Reality matters.
But perception matters too, because if our target market can't see us being helpful, our sincerity is invisible.
Moral of the story, the messages coming in are just as important as the messages going out.
Reverse email marketing is learning to love the fantastic word of mouth food our market will happily feed us, if we ask, and let them know we're listening.
